gzt: Disable JavaScript. I guarantee you some CPU back.
Switch to Edge browser?
Disabling two cores might be allowing the CPU to use turbo boost more on the remaining cores as well as it is based on thermal headroom for the whole chip I believe. I normally just limit max CPU to 75% in the power settings for when using battery and that gives a little longer time on battery. I don't find it hugely slower even when using Visual Studio. Also never hear the fan on battery either on my T430.
Try Vultr using this link and get us both some credit:
It appeared that disabling 2 cores sent the remain 2 cores' temp skyrocketting for some reason. So I'm back on 4 cores. Not sure if the power consumption will be altered but the fans drove me berserk.
