ChristineNZL:

PBTech have MacBook Air with 256GB SSD for $1649.  For $1999 you get 512GB. Is it worth paying the extra?

How full is the hard drive of your current laptop?

For most home users I don't think it's worth it but YMMV depending on how you use it.

I wish my father would buy a Mac. The corporate PC he has is way too complicated, and it is costing him a fortune to get a technician to maintain it for him.

This says it has a M1 chip and it's an Air. https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/NBKAPP213125612/Apple-13-Macbook-Air-Silver---Apple-M1-chip-with-8

M1 is the important bit, It shows that it is the new computer based on arm architecture.

Yep that is the one.

Take a look at how full your current drive is. I personally have got the 256gb model also and with a bunch of larger apps installed I still have plenty of space.

Also if you need regular USB ports then you'll need to grab a dock too. Something like this (https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/ADPJ5C5379/J5create-USB-Type-C-Multi-Adapter-Mini-Dock-with-P) is a cheaper option with HDMI out also but there are also cheaper options on Trademe - the one I purchased I think was $20.

Surface Laptop 4 specifically AMD version. If you know anyone that is a student, take them along and it’s under $1500 for 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Comes with a touch screen built in and build quality is great. Windows 10 OS so something you are already familiar with.

Surface device build quality is excellent. Reliability not so much.

They do give decent RMA service though.

Thank you everyone. We did seriously consider the MacBook but in the end decided we wanted a slightly bigger laptop and got another HP.
