fearandloathing:

Does it charge using usb-c. My m3 MacBook Air had a faulty MagSafe cable.

No, doesn’t charge.

Also doesn’t charge in Recovery and Mac won’t activate after complete wipe because it can not find wifi card.

How about taking it back to a different authorised Apple Repairer since it still doesn’t charge?

If I understand correctly then you'll still be using the beta firmware, even in recovery mode. I think you'll need to do a DFU restore as suggested earlier (if that'll work without Wi-Fi).

no way this is a software issue surely. the first thing to do it to test the hardware i would have thought.

That’s exactly what I did. Took it to Ubertec and am awaiting results.

They couldn’t test the hardware because it was not able to boot into recovery diagnostics and obtain a wifi.

So the first repairer thought it was software. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Confirmed that it's a failed logic board so Apple is replacing it with a new M4 Pro. (from M3 Pro)

Guess it turned out alright.

You are very trusting. My reaction to that would be that they're lying, unless they are terribly incompetent.

I told them that it's unlikely to be a software issue and asked for the laptop back if all they are going to do is a "reimage" for $200. To get it back just with the assessment, it'll cost $95.

So after some back and forward, Apple paid for the $95 assessment fee and I got it back.

Then I took it to another service centre in which they confirmed it was a failed logic board.

Good that you got the proper service from Ubertec, while personally I did have one issue with Ubertec a few years ago (and that was more due to Apple refusing to admit that there a software issue that affected my particular build of Macbook), for me as far as who I trust to do the job properly, it's Ubertec.

I've had luck with ConnectNZ but they are less communicative, and I got weird vibes during one repair, they were looking for reasons a repair under an Apple Service Program wouldn't be covered before I'd even harded the device over.

turtleattacks:

Just got the laptop back as Apple waived the $95 assessment fee.

Just as I suspected, it’s not the beta OS that’s causing the issue.

Within recovery, laptop is still not charging and wifi card not detected.

Have you tested all ports, including the MagSafe and all three USB-C ports, to determine if the issue is isolated to a specific one? It sounds like a hardware fault.

I'm glad you rang Apple Support.

All the ports were tested and confirmed failed logic board (hardware).

I’m just a bit annoyed that the first repair centre was convinced that it was a software issue and wanted to charge me for an image.

Apple were kind enough to replace the entire unit with a brand new MBP M4 Pro which is very nice.

Don't even get me started on our AASP experience in NZ lol

Great outcome and customer service! Just curious, do you have AppleCare+ on your Mac? They don't normally replace it if this is the first repair.

FYI - When you’re confirming the hardware specs with Apple, you can ask for a pay upgrade if necessary.

No Apple Care and warranty ran out a month ago.

I had to get an exception code from Apple senior advisors for the repair.

I wonder if that first assessment with the first repair centre (in which they did nothing) was a blessing in disguise so Apple to justify the replacement.

They originally wanted or the system would only allow the replacement of a MBP M4 base to replace my MBP M3 Pro but pushed back and they had to get some special authorisation.

So great result all round.
