chiefie: not to be biased... i haven't had any BSOD for years... and if I do, I know what is causing it... (me with wrong drivers usually! LOL)

and when I used to work on Mac... i get beachball just about every day and it is a well maintained Mac too....

The other point I was trying to make was:
Beachball - application not responding/loading (also not at a responsive state yet).... it isn't to the same degree as a BSOD.
Kernal Panic - Gray window that instructs you to hold down the power button and turn the computer back on - this is more or less the Mac version of BSOD. These are rare - usually caused by bad drivers or hardware faults.

A better comparsion of the beachball is the 'Program not responding' window in window or 'End Task'.

yeah but if the application/system been beachballing for at least good solid 20mins and it even beachballing regardless your mouse on desktop or application though... it's random with any application.

Internet is my backyard...

Mahuhu: I agree.
Brad05 made the silliest comparison (nothing personal btw, r u working for Dell?).
You just cant compare a low end PC with any Mac laptop. De facto.

To clear up the confusion and try and keep my good reputation intact.... I dont work for dell, just own Dell computers and would recommend them highly.

I wasnt actually comparing a low end PC to a mac, was just saying you could get those certain features on low end PCs.

I personally hate Macs and that is only my opinion (something to do with being forced to use LCII and LCIII's in my school years). But i have nothing against those who use and love macs, they should be proud to be 'different' lol.

And with regards to the BSOD.....since using WinXP only occured when my laptop over heated, something to do with having very thick layer of dust between fan and heat sink

If it was me I'd go down to the local computer store and have a play around on both types of machine. Then I'd see which one suited me better from an everyday, ease of use view point.

Thanks eddy, most intelligent reply yet. Thats what id do too. I have never had a mac, but am tempted to sell all this Wintel stuff (Athlon XP 2800+ 1GBDDR400 DVD+-RW DVDROM 160GB 120GB 8xUSB2 Onboard (no hubs)) and buy me a mac mini.

I will definitely buy a Powerbook early next year.
I have been in Harvey Wairau and the guy at Apple corner made me a presentation which showed me the power of the machine and the softwares. Very good.

I will be in the US so I will buy there because the Apple stuff is extremely overpriced in NZ.
Just to compare:
A 12" Powerbook costs here NZD 2959 (incGST) while in the US it costs around NZD 2100.
Significant difference!

It's even 300 dollar less in AUS then here!
