NZtechfreak: Disappointing screens on basically all of them besides the ASUS one, screen has to be seen to be believed. Matte, IPS, 1080p.


I guess it boils down to what you want from the device. I've never found any computer screen wanting to any great degree, but then I don't use them for High Definition viewing.

If you see the UX31A screen you will likely find other screens wanting :)

True that use-cases have an impact, we occasionally watch video from the laptop, the viewing angles are key with multiple viewers (an area where IPS destroys other LCD panels).

If you are looking at a demo unit make sure to turn off the ASUS display calibration software, it is responsible for the ghastly yellow whites that some reviews reference (honestly its depressing how poor most reviews are). With it turned off whites are fine.

Well in the end, my Scottish blood won out. I bought a 6 month old HP Folio off TM for $650. As new condition and 6 months left on the warranty.

gonna chip in and ask - heard of the halswell processor - is it worth waiting for it to make ultrabooks that much better and when will it be released?
