I installed a retina for a friend of mine, I am nearsighted and far from 20/20 eyesight. I must admit that I mostly couldn't tell much difference. But maybe I should have done more than setting it up to discover the advantages.

I am enjoying the 2013 Macbook Air though, even though it just got outdated today. 512 SSD HD, 8 GB of RAM and the quickest processor on the 13" version. Its taken over from my 2010 Macbook Pro 15" with 512 GB SSD (which is about a third as quick as the one in the Macbook Air).

SSD is the best invention since sliced bread, if you ask me.

So MorrisTheCat, are there other problems that are trampling your enjoyment of the Retina?

It's pertinent to consider. i have not seen what the upcoming OS_Maverick will do to the GUI but looking at the offering of what my iPhone and iPad is going to become i am concerned. The fundamental "look" of things Apple is based on the incredible visual performance offered by the Retina displays with the very cool 3D effect icons and what i have seen of the announced up coming changes with flat juvenile rounded decoloured icons will simply serve as to detract from having a lovely hi tech, hi-resolution able LCD. Weird thinking Apple...

Apart from that i've only a couple of specific Apple programs i run for my hobby in software-defined radio (SDR)... see http://machamradio.com/2011/06/cutesdr/ and they are in need of a re-write to accommodate the res of the retina because the displayed represented data (especially the waterfalling graphic etc) is decidedly room for improvement infact somewhat lower grade than that when viewed on the olde MacBook.

Retina is awesome.

But, I returned the first macbook pro because it had dead pixels.

And, the replacement one they gave to me also has 4 dead pixels.

I'm wondering if I should return it again.

Wow,  most certainly would unless the stuck pixels are off to a zone and aren't blazingly intense to be obvious (meaning you are happy to work with it like that). The only fear here is (speaking as an electronics repair eng, that it could be a warning an entire address row is about to fail thus the screen ending up with a complete line out...

Warranty is why little fail issues like this can be put to right and i am sure Apple will want to know the trouble is happening so they so something about it...
