Yup there is system restore in control panel. I could not tell you if that is secure, it is a good question. But also you should have some free support calls with that.
After Windows sign-in, swipe in from the right side of the screen, and click Settings. Tap on Change PC settings and then on General. Go to Remove Everything and Re-install Windows, and tap on Get Started. Follow the instructions on screen and let the Surface restart. After Windows sign-in, swipe in from the right side of the screen, and click Settings. Tap on Change PC settings and then on General. Got it sorted thanks. I have the 8GB coming and I still cant figure out how I got sent the wrong one but its hopefully all going to be ok. I'll check the battery save thing on the new one but I have to say it really has quite a short battery life - looks to be about 4 hours which is about the same as my 2 yr old Toshiba. I imagined it would have been a bit longer with all the advances in battery technology although apparently Lenovo is top for that.
The screen on the thing is really amazing and as I haven't yet received the new Surface Pro 4 keyboard which has only just been sent out. It is super easy to use without the keyboard. I haven't been doing any reports and stuff this week so that may be influencing my opinion but having only used it for 24 hours. I have to say, it is so light and handy and in 'tablet form' would be pretty difficult to damage compared to a normal laptop. Screen size actually seems optimal and I hadn't noticed the smaller size.
Only downside so far does seem to be that it gets pretty hot at the top but that may be largely because I was downloading all my apps and so forth. Time will tell.
You are right about browsers. Microsoft's new browser with Bing takes ages and has a noticeable failure rate. I don't mind Chrome and my kids always use it as its what they have at school but I have to say for ease of use and effective operation, Firefox is the one to have IMO.
I'm guessing you were doing some downloading / installing etc during that time. Heavy on WiFi and file decompression tends to hit the cpu and battery. Normal browsing and office work should be around 7 hr.
