I now go around everywhere with a Dell XPS 13, it's about the size of an ipad. THe only thing I wish it had was an HDMI port and a Sim card slot.

A cost effective option could be one of these

Limited to 8gb ram, but does have spare slot for a second SSD, I have a 13.3" version and its a very good bang for buck option. you will most likely need to buy via an online store and it does come pre-installed with a single language chinese version of W10 however this is easily rectified

Because you have a Macbook Air I would consider taking a look at the 2016/2015 Macbook, it has a higher resolution 12-inch LED display (slightly smaller) and a newer processor with a better keyboard (in my opinion, you may need to try it in store) vs Macbook Air with low res TN display pretty good keyboard and older processor. If not the new Macbook Pros are good to use though the dongle life might get to you there are plenty of work arounds. Refurbished Macbook-Apple NZ

I'd probably go for the new XPS 13 or 15 depending on what screen size you're used to. Next month I'll be buying their Alienware 15 for pro 3D work.

I see there is a new XPS 13 due out next year, so when would be a good time to buy? Either wait for the new one, or wait for the current one to get a price drop?

A new one? The new one is already out. It’s smashing 4 cores. Yes there’ll always be a new one. It’s up to you, what you need and when.

When is the release date next year... like 6 months from now..? :D I'd buy it as soon as you need it... Dell always have specials on their website but they alternate them, sometimes its free ram upgrades, sometimes storage, sometimes price discount. The worst is when they have a stupid free backpack or something lol.
