What if you do a reverse DNS lookup on the IP is it just a broadband dynamic pool *.jetstream.xtra.co.nz or does it point to something more obvious like the local secondary school *.n4l.sparkdigital.co.nz?

Or find the Wi-Fi router MAC address and go wardriving? Does Google still use such records as part of its location services?

Police don't care and the people stealing know it.

I think it is more a case of being under resourced.

I don't. They've plenty of resources for harassing people going about their daily business that happen to exceed an arbitrary speed limit by an even more arbitrary amount despite the fact there is no victim. More a case of misdirected resources.

MadEngineer: Hating on the police like that isn't needed imho. They might be crap in your area of the woods but I've had excellent responses from the police here in Palmy.

They are pretty useless in the Big Smoke.

Had some come to my house for domestic violence once for something that was the furthermost from that. Called them while watching a house burglary. Didn't want to show up at all. Watched the burglar on the phone with the cops for about 40 minutes then told them to forget it because all they wanted was a running commentary and wouldn't send officers...

I have also witnessed many people be let off Scott free by them for many things because they couldn't be bothered doing the paperwork and driving to Henderson.
