I've ordered the one above and will let you know how it goes. Not worried about the reflective screen as I am used to my current touch screen. And for me the lower battery life is not an issue.
Will keep 'an ear out' for the coil whine issue.

I've had the first device with coil whine, it really doesn't bother me at all. Unless you want a silent device like an ipad, the laptop fans annoy me more than any whine. Maybe I have hearing loss and can't hear any high pitched dog whistles perhaps.
Clearly I was looking at these at sale prices. The prices have gone up quite a bit (back to normal?) Unless I've misread some sort of cash back deal.
mudguard:
So I've narrowed it down to the 3 XPS 13's.
All have I7,
Now $3199 $2719 for the 512GB with 16GB of Ram and touchscreen
Now $2699 $2294 for 256GB and 8GB of Ram, touchscreen
Now $2499 $1999 for 256GB and 8GB of ram, no touchscreen.
I would say my budget is $2500, but is it worth stretching it to get the bigger hard drive and more ram?

I've been using my new (refurbished from the Dell Outlet) XPS13 for a couple of days now.
I've not noticed any whine.
The Bundle I bought said XPS 13 6th generation Intel core i7-6560u (4M Cache, up to 3.2GHz). The info on the laptop says CPU @ 2.2 GHz. Is that the same?
One thing does bother me though. It gets very hot. I can feel the heat in the top couple of rows on the key board and underneath where the vents are. I am using a tray, not sitting it on my lap. I have read that they are known for getting hot.
Is this a defect? (I am within my first 15 days and could return to Dell)
Is it OK? or will it effect the laptop long term?
I am happy with it other than the above. Advice please, and thank you.
Got the in-laws a HP ProBook 440 - perhaps going one step up might be good if you want better video than just the Intel adapter. But really nice machines for non-professional use.

I have an XPS 15 (mid 2016, 1080p non-touch) and it seems like every single coil in the thing must whine. Especially when connected to the AC adapter.
That's not really an issue compared to how terrible the screen ghosting is, though.

Thank you, I'll not worry then.
Just out of interest, why don't MacBooks get hot?

Funny enough the only time my MacBook Pro gets hot is when I bootcamp. I don't put it under any real stress mind you.

I've read a lot of reviews that said something about the unibody of the Mac being used as a giant heat sink or something. But I think to myself, the only way it doesn't get hot when stressed is if it never gets stressed ie massively throttled like the iMacs ;p
If you say so man. Not heard of them being artificially throttled before.
