I am still gutted at the lack of Haswell in the NZ market. Looking down the PB Tech list is just depressing.

I asked PB if they could get the UX302LA in and they could but were going to have to freight it from overseas.

We still seem to be stuck in Gen 3 ultrabook territory in NZ.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

joker97: What is the cheapest 13" haswell laptop under 1.4kg nowadays?

There aren't many options out in the market. The Ivy Bridge ones are still very prevalent.

So true, agree with you.

That's why I am considering importing:

Considering ASUS has international warranty, this is a viable option.

Well that's not a fair comparison as one is an ultrabook. However, the Asus option is quite expensive vs the other options like the Toshiba Kirabook.

Looking through this thread and IME it seems we are being gouged a bit at the top end of most laptop ranges. I hypothesise that NZ is being treated as one of a backwater to ship end of line machines, which coincidently provides a market niche opportunity to charge more for the top end machines because of the pricing structure and lower volume and availability. Gah!

Yup that's the same for most other things. Because of that our building material and Cars are the worst. For example a Subaru wrx is 25k list price in usa. Not even including discounts. :)

Yep. I think you are right. Standard stuff is priced about right. Top of the line stuff is gouged. Maybe it is a volume thing.... Kiwi's buy loads of midrange stuff but very little high range stuff.

That's uber expensive - why not order the HP spectre from hp USA for about US$700 less? Smaller HD - but external USB3.0 drives are a cheaper option

The HP warranty is worldwide too

Imho volume in a top end model is not really an issue for major brands with access to consolidated airfreight for service requirements. I expect it's an advantageous situation for them in many ways and no one wants to break it up.

The hp 13" ones seem to be mostly over 1.5kg. When you have a 13" system get one as close to 1kg as possible I reckon. Vaio pro comes to mind but it is $$$

I pulled the trigger on the Noel Leeming HP 13-3004tu. Although I am going through to the States in April I cannot be bothered going through the drama of shipping to hotels and bringing back to New Zealand.

Will let you know how the HP goes. Am coming from an Asus UX31e.

NL have nothing in stock in Auckland so I am unsure of a shipping timeframe.

Cheers, Matt.
