Yep - I have always been of the opinion I am better off buying middle of the road, and upgrading every couple of years, rather than buy top of line and paying double, but then have to wait twice as long to upgrade. Especially when the following year that top-of-the-line model is now half the price.

The lenovo link item looks alright. Get the 1080p screen and get a single slot 8gb ram so there is another slot free, try and match a ram stick. Buy their largest ssd you can afford and swap away!

Been offered an HP Envy M7 with a broken touch screen - everything else is fine apparently. They will upgrade the RAM to 16GB and to a 256GB SSD all for a total of $1299. Comes with a 12 month warranty as per usual.

Seems like a pretty good deal, and gives me everything I wanted - 17" screen, i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD.

Thoughts?

Personally I wouldn't touch a consumer model HP laptop.

Even at that price?!

What are the typical issues with them?

The link says $999.

I'd offer $800 and see the response
