I've read a lot of reviews that said something about the unibody of the Mac being used as a giant heat sink or something. But I think to myself, the only way it doesn't get hot when stressed is if it never gets stressed ie massively throttled like the iMacs ;p

If it was a giant hotsink then it would be hot on the external surface.

So they have thermal protection? What a design flaw....

You were making out like they were being throttled so they didn't get hot in the first place.

Alright guys. I still havent got myself a new laptop.

What are your thoughts on the below? I'm torn between them all, could go either way, however the Asus from MightyApe is the front runner for me

Asus Zenbook 310UA - Price says $1500, but I can get it for $1300

Dell Inspiron 15-5000 - $1500

Lenovo Yoga 710 14" - $1600

Lenovo Ideapad 710s I7- $1643

The Asus seems like the best bang for buck. I originally stated I wanted a 15", which from this list the Dell only fits that category. I'm not a traveler, so portability isn't an issue, however I have no use for the DVD/CD player in the Dell so its just added bulk.

Laptop will be on my desk at home and will be used for Youtube/Movies/Music (Spotify) (No Gaming), Small amount of Video editing, Word Processing and Web Browsing.

Each has their own benefits, I'm stuck.

Thoughts?

Edit: Would like to add in the Acer Swift 7. I really like the look of it, plus it has Kaby Lake and USB-C, so somewhat future proof. However I cant for the life of me find out if it has HDMI or not? Some places say yes, others say no. If it doesn't have HDMI/Micro HDMI, then its a no from me.

My wife's Zenbook hinge failed after 2 years causing screen problems, it couldn't be repaired. My Mum and MIL have Lenovo, they look more robust.

Me too I have heard and read that the Zenbook hinges are a bit flimsy, but it's a comparison to the rest - perhaps they're all flimsy, perhaps the rest are worse, perhaps better.

I can't for the life of me find ANY reviews for the Swift 7 with the i7 processor.

Everything is i5.

Makes me think we got an exclusive here in NZ or somebody has made a typo....

Does what I want, $400 cheaper.

Swift does look very nice though...

Ok so I took the laptop out of the box tonight, a lot smaller than what I am used to. I think it's too small for me personally, but that's to be decided in the future.

One major problem is that one of the screws is a bit lose on the base of the laptop. Does anybody know the type of screwdriver I need to tighten it? It's really small, I think it's shaped like a star, might be a circle, but I think it's a star. Really small and my 6P can't seem to focus on it that great for me to take a picture.

Any ideas?

Edit: Ok looks like the screws are called Torx T5. Few $ for a screwdriver on Trade Me, guess I'll have to get one.

Yeah it'll be a torx screw based on your description. You can get them at jaycar in most sizes as well
