I really want the touch Kindle. Went to DSE and the only ones they sell, the Kindle keyboard and entry series 4 seem so old fashioned. I kept hitting the screen expecting it to do something. Duh! That behaviour is now too entrenched with Iphones, Ipads and android tablets we have at home. So went to Whitcoulls and liked the touch but didn't like the text crispness on the Kobo. Saw a Sony touch unit who's text  was terrible and flashed every time a page turned- yeucchh! So what to do? well, I was googling away thinking there must be a way to do this, came upon this website:

http://buykindle.bestcomputerguides.com/2011/09/buy-amazon-kindle-touch-in-new-zealand/

Decided that I'd give this a go- so to all you Kiwis desperate to find a way to get this product, I'm your test dummy!

For how it works refer to this web page:
http://www.comgateway.com/RED/com.comgateway.bluesky.common.ComgatewayServicesDIY.do?4403cgtyxsd=sITOYM%2FVnmPiD739Uel8vmX7ync%3D

What Ive done so far:

1. Registered with one of the freight forwarders. I used: http://www.comgateway.com
2. Clicked on Geekzone's Amazon ordering Link (you still get your 6%!) and ordered the "Kindle Touch 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 6" E Ink Display - includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers"
3. put the US address the forwarders gave me into the delivery section - ACCEPTED by Amazon
4. Paid US$149 + Freight (local frieght in US is cheaper- about US$6)
5. I am now awaiting my Kindle to arrive in the US warehouse (est. 5 Dec), where the forwarder will forward to Singapore warehouse and inform me to pay the next part of the freight from singapore to NZ.

All up should be about NZ$250... same price as the Kobo Touch at Whitcoulls but way better product!

Wish me luck, Ill update progress.

Gary

I bought the Kindle Touch from US too, I spent 140 USD, which is about 200 NZD in total.
I used Amazon's free shipping service to ship it to a US mail forward service, Ship it to.
Then just pay the US to NZ shipping cost, which is about 40 USD.

That US$ 40 is not Amazon shipping. The model in point is not shipped to NZ so it was shipped to a forwarder in the US. The US$ 40 is how much the forwarder charges for the service.

Of course shipping from Amazon would be cheaper, if it was available, but it's not.

Any updates? Am looking at doing the same thing but have never used a shipping service. Potentially using shipito (but don't really care which company too much just would like to hear someone successfully getting their package delivered) so will be following with interest. Thanks

Not much of an update: The Kindle has shipped as of Friday to US address but not yet showing up in thier Singapore warehouse .  just as an aside, comgateway customer service seems good- I forgot my password and locked the account trying to enter wroung one too many times, they had it unfrozen in a few hours, over the weekend!

I just bought te basic kindle 4 for US$120.98 delivered to NZ.

Thought the extra $40 for the US to NZ shipping service is a bit of a ripoff.

there is no difference in cost if you are getting the basic kindle 4
since getting it from amazon is 109 + 11. = 120
getting it from mail forward is 79 + 40. = 120

But for the Kindle Touch, the only way you can get it is by using mail forward.
There is nothing to lose even when the Touch is available to NZ, the cost will be the same around 140 for non-3g version.

Exactly! UPdate is the kindle arrived in the fowarders today (6 Dec), there are two shipping options; US$40 for standard and $48 for express. As its close to christmas Im picking express. indulgent but it was never about the cost but the product I wanted. [EDIT: They gave out a free US$15 "signup bonus dollars" so only cost US$33.]

Excellent! Are you registering it to your amazon account-- soem posts in this forum seem to indicate that locks you into more expensive NZ dollar books-- though I may be a bit confused on that. can you advise what you did?

I've used Shipito many times, excellent service.

I have a guide about using Shipito here at my blog for the uninitiated or unsure.

The issue with the OP and the page flashing, may have something to do with full page refresh versus partial page refresh. With the partial one you can get ghosting of teh old page. Text sharpness can also be adjusted.

Hoping to get in time for xmas
