Hi,
My DSL telecom broadband download speed never goes above 9.70-9.75 Mb/s according to speedtest.net.
I'm in Wellington, not far from a city centre.
Should I complain or this is normal?

Modem stats?

Have you checked the house wiring?

It depends entirely on your sync stats. The further you are from a cabinet or exchange the slower DSL will be. Your internal wiring will also affect speeds, and for the best performance a master xDSL is essential.

I can't find a way of getting the statistics on my TNZ Thomson modem. Any ideas?
What exactly needs to be paid attention to while checking the house wiring? I checked that there is one cable that goes from a socket on a wall to my door and then outside into a pipe. No obvious damages on a cable I can notice.

I've tried the modem's web interface as well as the terminal one already. Can't find the modem statistics there.
So, do you have the exact link or the menu/command for the terminal session?

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]:2,72 / 32,38
So 20Mb/s down and 1Mb/s up.

Oh, this is not much different from the speedtest in my case. I think we were talking about signal level etc so I was trying to find that info.

Hi, follow as Damager says, you will find that on the right of the screen there are options like detail or DSL etc, keep digging down in there, its not hard, just need to look about. I have checked the DSL stats of literal doznes of these modems, I can assure you its there, and in good detail, just need to look about.

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:1,5 / 2,5

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:13,5 / 12,5

What are yours by comparison? You said you had a similar connect speed up and down.. But wondering if your attenuation and sn ratio is similar also.. If it is.. it would like come down to house wiring..

Your speed and sync rates are pretty much spot on for your attenuation level.

Without knowing your exact location and the exact state of your internal wiring is it's impossible to know whether you should be seeing faster speeds. Internal wiring is the single biggest contributor to poor speeds and the only way to know you're receiving maximum performance is to have a master filter installed. The mere existance of multiple jackpoints in your home, regalrdless of whether they have devices plugged in and/or filters on them will always affect performance to some extent.

+1 check your wiring.

I've moved house recently and had constant disconnections.

Under the house some idiot had wired everything to a chocolate block and there was other dodgy stuff - have rewired and getting a rock solid connection now.

Ok, thanks. The only thing that I can try to do is to cut the cable just after the door and try to connect the modem from there. I'm in an apartment building so don't have much control of the wiring outside my apartment.
