Should I expect to have different speed results vs the time of day I've done the tests?

Speeds test on April 5th.

Vs today about 30 min ago.

Where did my other 1.9Mbps go? I really like having 3.0Mbps...its all I got and would really like to have it back. I have tried rebooting the modem...I did see a Chorus truck on my road Friday (2 days ago).

Did Chorus steal my other 1.9Mpbs?

I think Chorus may have stolen my neighbors speed as well...as he says he connection speed is much slower vs previous tests.

There could be any number of explanations for what is happening, and unfortunately you've provided about as much information as asking how long a piece of string is.

You're going to need to provide a lot more information, such as:

- What are your DSL sync stats?
- What is your home wiring like? How many devices? Do you have a master filter?
- What is your location?
- Are you connected to an exchange or cabinet? What sort of distance are you? Chorus SAT will tell you this.
- What type od modem are you using?
- Are you running tests connected wired or wirelessly?

Home wiring should be good...house was built in 2006. No rats or mice chewing at the wires. Internet has been working pretty good at speed for the last 11 months.

4 devices hooked up via 5e cable to 1 GB switch....they've all been working for 11 months on this network. But for testing purposes 3 devices are taken offline and one unit is hooked up to the DSL modem directly. No master filter installed.... We didn't need one for the last 11 months.

I would never test via wirelessly.

Well there are 100s of threads on the same subject with what basic INFO is required and basic fault checking steps

Stealing is not the best word to use!

Perhaps steal is a little strong...perhaps I am just not getting the bargain I use to get paying $1500/yr to Telecom. $1500 just isn't what is use to be =(

I'm a little confused though. Did I post in the Vodafone section or something? Are Telecom and Vodafone the same company?

ADSL works the same no matter what company you are with and speed is impacted the same, Conklin cabinets generally only have a couple of E1's feeding them for transmission so the more users that get ADSL off these notice quite a drop in speed at peak time

Nope, John however has a good understanding of how BB works in NZ and to be fair, you didn't give any helpful info in your first post (fixed in your next post with lots of relevant stuff)

The drop in performance is almost certainly due to the fact you're on an older conklin (piece of equipment) which has a smaller link to the rest of the Internet than the DSLAMs in areas covered by Chorus' cabinetisation program - or in more heavily populated areas.

Your ADSL sync speed is about 7mbit with a good upstream figure, so it's unlikely to be your home wiring or a degradation in the actual ADSL part of the link. You could have had a few heavy users recently connect nearby and you're all now competing for the bandwidth at peak times.

If performance does vary by time of day, and is generally slower in peak times - this is the most probable reason.

I'm afraid I haven't looked into whether your area is due for any upgrades although I think that the cabinetisaiton program is done now.

That sounds like it is most likely the answer.

Upgrade isn't going to be till sometime 2014.

Thanks Johnr that also explains it as well.

I've heard of this happening to internet connections. Just wasn't lucky enough to experience it before. Serves me right for telling a few other neighbors how good it is to be with Telecom (to leave their wireless internet company).

Gotta understand - 3 Mbps isn't a whole lot...but when it is all you got you don't want to lose it.

Simply reality is if you're on a Conklin cabinet what you're getting is what you're stuck with. The Conklin's are only ADSL capable and typically only have a handful of E1's as backhaul meaning the new users that have been added will be impacting the performance if they're heavy users.

I assume the upgrade you're referring to in 2014 will be an RBI cabinet upgrade and new ISAM and fibre backhaul, this will certainly solve your issues.

Your on a Conklin and the speeds that Chorus give you will be the best they can offer.

As per my last post in the other thread:

As per the Chorus RBI rollout:

DRL/AN Q1 Year 3

You should be getting upgraded sometime in Q1 Year 3 which in theory should be around October 2013 or early 2014. I can't comment as to the exact date as that's up to Chorus but those were the high level target dates I was given and could change without notice.

Residential broadband is a shared network (or contended) best effort service with no guarantee or performance or reliability.

If you think you have a fault you should report it to your ISP's help desk so they can go through standard troubleshooting steps.

However a couple of Mbit drop on a connection served by a conklin probably isn't a fault just congestion.
