My R101 randomly stopped working today and where my signal usually is, there is 'FTM' displayed and it says I am getting no service. After a little googling (and some threads here), I found that it's a glitch with the ZTE phones Telecom sells and it needs to be sent away to be repaired.

I went into the Telecom shop today and I was told I need a receipt to show if it was within its 1 year warranty, otherwise it would cost me $55 to send it away to be repaired.

I can't find my receipt currently (am working on it), but I am 90% sure my phone is about 2 days over a year old so I'm not covered, however it seems to me that Telecom really should be sorting it out for me for free. I mean it is through no fault of mine, rather it is Telecom's for not fixing it!

Do I have any options other than fronting up with $55 to fix an $80 phone/buy a new phone or am I SOL?

EDIT:

Just found my receipt, I bought it a year ago yesterday. Now to hope that they honour it... :/

Ask for it to be OEM Escalated when booked in, Telegistics will then escalate to ZTE as ZTE will honor FTM faulted phones even if just outside warranty (at their discretion) just be aware if the device has moisture/physical damage there will be a service fee of $55 to get the phone back.
