Anyone know when TC are going to get off their butts and offer UFB plans?

Orcon say they can connect me now but, as a TC customer, I would like to be able to compare offerings.

I wouldn't connect with either if it were me.

Yes ok fair enough I should have made that clearer.

Both have some of the worst service in the current list of ISPs in NZ in my opinion. There are plenty of complaints and comments to that affect in both forum groups. Billing is a particular issue for TCL.

I think the OP was refering to Telecom (TC) not TelstraClear (TCL), which will explain why its in the Telecom sub forum.

I don't think Telecom will be doing anything UFB wise for probably 6 months+. Plenty of ISPs offering it now.

I can't officially comment on anything but I am sure once there has been an official announcement that the Geekzone peeps will be one of the first to know and comment extensively on the offering.

I understand that you can't 'jump the gun', Peter, but Telecom (there, spelt in full!), must realise the conundrum we customers are in who don't really want to change suppliers.

If I wait, and don't like your offering, I am losing $75/mth (Orcon free till Dec). I will probably be breaking my 12mth contract entered into when I added a new phone to my Total Home a/c so the free months I want to pay for that ($199).

And I can't even ask whether going onto a Telecom UFB setup will count as a contract breaker as there is no UFB plan!

From where I sit it is an unsatisfactory mess. Telecom just should have been better prepared.

Linw: Telecom is NZ's Biggest ISP (I think) and it's not just as simple as rolling out new plans. There are huge infrastructure changes and things which need to be taken into account.

Who says you need a soft switch? Line cards can keep those NEAX's going for another 10+ years! Smile

Lol Telecom hasn't even got VDSL2 out yet, can't imagine how long it will take for UFB considering they need a VOIP solution too!
