I purchased a Palm Pre (GSM quad band 850,900,1800,1900and HSDPA 850,1900,2100) on the belief that it was going to work on the Skinny XT network.
I find that I get very limited reception (2 bars) and wonder if I am only getting the in-fill 2100 band and not the 850 band.
Is it possible that the850 band is not enabled?
I know that the IMEI number check says that the phone will not work on the skinny network, but is that test/check infallible?
Getting this to workwould be great. Contacts moved easily to new Palm.

What happens if you put another carriers SIM in the handset?

2degrees sim seems to work OK, but the reason to change to Telecoms network is coverage. I work around rural areas where telecom has better chance of viable connecttion

If a 2Degrees SIM works fine and the network settings on the handset are set to use 3G then looks like it's back to handset

The imei checker is not particularly reliable IME.

How certain are you that the phone supports hspa 850? Is that information from the box? Handset? Manual? A website? The seller etc

The Palm Pre was launched with AT&T and it should work just fine with Telecom. How is the signal strength for other handsets in the same location?

the phone was purchased off ebay uk and the properties bracketed in the initial forum commentwere as on the ebay website.
If there is doubt that those details are correct,...Am I able to check band compatibility from the phone itself?

If this is the UK version then I'm not confident it will run on XT anymore.
