Can anyone enlighten me on the ownership of Telecom- not Chorus but Telecom, Is this New Zealand owned (yes I know its not government owned) but what percentage of Telecom is owned by New Zealanders?

Any links or informaiton would assist- just working out wether to invest

It is a NZX listed company. The ownership is hard to know, as shares are often purchased by fund managers. But I had heard that NZ mum and dad shareholders could own around 50% of it. So if that is the case it is largely an NZ owned company and it's profits largely stay in NZ. I think the same would apply for chorus, as there was a share split, so people who where telecom shareholders, also became chorus shareholders..

I might be wrong, but doesn't the government still have a 24% "kiwi share" in Telecom?

But very difficult to tell who the end owners are. Many are just fund managers buying shares on behalf of their cusomters.
