There's always a fool that will part with his money, and a Trade Me seller that will try to rip off people.

Two examples: CDMA Express card and CDMA PCCARD.

These are not the only ones. Shame Trade Me does not have a rule to prevent people selling completely useless piece of crap that won't work anywhere else in the world - even less in New Zealand where Telecom CDMA is gone, gone, gone.

So i put that report under the 'seller intends to defraud' category.

I've already complained to a friend of mine at Trademe, and reported the trader(s), and asked questions saying the card (or phone) doesn't work on the network any more... Fallen on deaf ears so far.

Yeap they don't tend to get involved with validing whether ads are completely valid, unless they are obviously wrong. I complained about a real estate ad some time ago where it had incorrect information and QV data, but they didn't do anything, and it would have required them to check with QV to validate it.

Wow that was fast - within a couple of hours on a sunday night, trademe replied and said they had removed the listing.

Good luck Wheedle - will be an interesting challenge to match that level of customer service - if you come back.

Most US carriers refuse to connect BYO devices (with the exception of the one that's legally required to as a condition of their spectrum allocation) in which case even Verizon won't help.

I think people should be allowed to sell whatever they like, provided they clearly describe if the item won't work in NZ (and almost certinaly won't work anywhere else in the world)

some people may be gadget freaks who love pulling stuff apart, so it's certainly possible that someone will want to buy a non-functional network card.

They can sell whatever they like, except those auctions had in capital letters "WORK ON TELECOM NZ"

Well the first one is gone now too. Trademe just replied to my complaint stating that they have deemed it is in breach of terms.

Nothing wrong with selling old CDMA stuff, as long as the auction states something along the lines of "Will no longer work in New Zealand due to there being no active CDMA providers" or something.

As Sprint and Telecom NZ used the same CDMA tech and Sprint will connect X Verizon fones these cards would be OK but why would you want to when in the US the CDMA carriers are moving to LTE as fast as they can for data..
