In Matamata at the moment and happened to glance at the Telecom tower and noticed some new things on it halfway between the antenna and the tower mast, out of interest anyone know what they are?

I think the Antenna mid-mast is Vodafone, one below it looks like a 2degrees COW (has their gear on a trailer)

Vodafone have a 23 GHz licence on that site since 2009, but does look more panel like. Maybe a 1800 MHz panel for LTE, as already mentioned?

3rd carrier - they are converters to convert fibre to coax

2nd down is vodafone and lower one down is 2degress cow

I remember Telecom saying they are launching LTE in Auckland first in October, be a good surprise if they can launch with much more coverage

I would go with either the fibre to coax idea so that the same antennas can be used for another base unit - which would imply LTE. The idea is to get the data as close as you can to the antenna, because they can loose signal as it goes down the coax.

They could be RF amplifiers?
