I was in a mall in Christchurch today and deiced to take the opportunity to upgrade my sim in my gs4 to be able to use 4G. I did not need it but I thought why not its splashed around that its all free.
On entering the sotre and enquiring about replacing my sim I was told that I had to upgrade my plan to a ultra plan before I could get a sim.
I tried to explain that everything I had heard said that it was all free to upgrade to 4G and all I needed was a new sim, I even tried to point out the big sign in their window saying that it was free for all plans. I am on the $89 plan and was told I had to go to the $99 plan and that I did not know what I was talking about.
I politly said thanks but no thanks and left the store , I rang telecom and spoke to a wonderful lady to checked everything out and said to me that no I do not need to change plans and that all I needed to do was change to the newer sim.
She asked which store it was and said if I went back in she would ring them up and tell them I did not need to change plans.
Just so happens when I went back into the store the manager was on the phone to them , he was an arrogant pri*k that did not take well to the fact that they were wrong. A bewildered salesman swapped out my sim for me all the while still thinking I had to upgrade my plan.

Shame on you telecom store for being wanke*s and not treating people with respect , Good on you to telecom though for sorting it out when I rung up great service from that side of things.

How many other stores don't have the right information or have forced people to upgrade their plans when they have not needed to.

My old store is Telecom The Palms, go and see Johnny and tell him I sent you, he'll happily do it.

Seems strange, it's word from Telecom themselves.

Yes they do, but The Palms, Riccarton and Northlands are Telecom owned, the others around Christchurch are not (but they're managed by the same regional manager)

Was disappointing that I had to exit the store and ring telecom to get it sorted considering they are a telecom store , They could have at least got hold of them themselves to verify things but I was just dismissed right from the outset and made to feel like an idiot I think that is what ticked me off more than anything.

I just went into Riccarton and had no issues getting a new SIM. They had signage up which would make it hard to argue (said "free for prepaid and pay monthly").

I wonder if they get commissions for signing people up to contracts?

They do, but a plan change only without signing into a term doesnt give you a commission.

It would have been someone misinformed and stubborn rather than trying to be misleading.

If the store manager had the same idea, I would guess that he was the one who was misinformed and this trickled down to the staff.

I had both my iPhone 4 and iPad 3 micor sims replaced with 4G nano SIMs when I upgraded to an iPhone 5S and iPad Air with no issues or charges. This was on separate occasions and both at the St Lukes Mall Telecom store. This was also while others were posting on other threads asking when they would be available...

It just ended up a staff member having incorrect information. It was quickly sorted for the OP.
