Hi,
BigPipe broadband here.

We're really interested in finding out what you guys think about us at BigPipe, so we'd love to know what stuff you like or dislike, based on what you know so far, and if you have any questions for us about our future plans (some of which we might not be able to answer of course).

For example, what do you think about our prices? How do they compare with your current ISP regarding value for money?
We've tried to strip out as much stuff as possible to deliver only the broadband at a great price, but are there other things that we should be doing - like Modems or VOIP options?

We're looking for triallists for the next few months too, so if you are interested in giving us a test drive we'd love to have you on board and get feedback about the way we do stuff.

well, we've discussed this quite a bit and have a few ideas,

How about if we did this:

If the reason for the speed being below 5Mbps is not stuff under your control (e.g. not your house wiring, rubbishy old modem, or you testing over wifi) then we will only charge you for the basic plan (the 1Mbps plan) but allow your speed to go up to whatever it can (e.g. 3Mbps).
We think there will be only be a few people this applies to, and when checking your address we will be able to tell whether you are in an area that might not be able to get the 5Mbps - and let you know if this is the case before you actually sign up.
Obviously you can leave at anytime if you don't like the service we are providing, we don't have 12 month contracts etc

Do you think that is fair, or is there something else we should be doing?

...there is another thing about speed that might interest you guys.

There is a new 'code of conduct' thing coming for broadband, which, amongst other things, will require various disclosures about speed, mostly relating to average speeds.
Obviously we don't have any customers yet to generate an 'average' from, but once we do, we will probably swap out our speed indicators with the actual speeds our customers are getting.

What would be a great selling feature is fibre packages with the following :

Residential:
100mb or 50mb
Unlimited data
Allow Multiple Static IP's

Binary Limited - Safe. Secure. Simple. ™

as of right now, we have no fair use policy.

Depending on how people behave, hopefully we won't need one. We know that some ISPs do have one (like Orcon and Flip) but others don't (like Slingshot), so we're pretty confident we can live without one too.

We should be fine for people who like to use the internet a whole lot, but if people start trying to make their own ISP on our VDSL connections, or do other dumb stuff that totally screws with the network, we might have to re-visit to keep things nice and fast for the rest

As an aside, we don't like the term 'unlimited'. It suggests that there is no limit to how much you can download, which is factually incorrect. There will always be a limit of some kind, which depends on lots of things, many of which are totally beyond an ISPs control.

Unless somebody can prove me wrong by donwloading an infinite amount of data....

So instead of that, we say 'No data cap' since that is actually correct.

Yeah, we'd love to do Fibre, but one step at a time...

Hopefully we'll have UFB in the next 12 months or so, but can't promise anything right now. We'd like to keep our price points the same too. Keeps things simple for us and simple for you guys.

yeah, it is supposed to. It's so people can have a look at our plans etc and then give feedback on geekzone.

prob around 200 at this stage, but we'll see how it goes.

If i will use 300-450 Gb/month, is it ok for you?

And what rules or minimum requirements(line attenuation/your network availability) you have for VDSL connection?

Seeing BinaryLimited mentioning multiple IPs reminded me of a couple of questions:

- Are you providing public IPs or using something like carrier-grade NAT (as with Flip)?
- IPv6 support?
