Do you guys have any idea when you are going to be able to offer these?

I'm a geek, a gamer, a dad, a Quic user, and an IT Professional. I have a full rack home lab, size 15 feet, an epic beard and Asperger's. I'm a bit of a Cypherpunk, who believes information wants to be free and the Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it. Pretty sure I saw them post somewhere that there were no plans to offer these.

You can however apply to get an IPV4 address rather than a CG-NAT IP.

You can however apply to get an IPV4 address rather than a CG-NAT IP.

I vaguely remember something as well, but I thought it was along the lines of "Currently we can give you an IPV4 instead of CG-Nat, and we hadn't really looked at static's but might be able in the future" or something along those lines.

I'm hoping they will be able to offer them once they go "live" rather than in trial mode, I have home hosted domains and servers so it's fairly high on my list of things I'd like :-)

Sbiddle is correct.
No static ip yet, but you can have a public ip if you want.
No dates locked in yet for if/when we will be able to do static ip.

Is it ipv4 you need, or would you be able to do what you need with ipv6?

I guess you need to ask the question as to whether this is a feature a low cost ISP should offer. In my view it's not, especially when they clearly don't have a big chunk of IPV4 space.

I guess you need to ask the question as to whether this is a feature a low cost ISP should offer. In my view it's not, especially when they clearly don't have a big chunk of IPV4 space.

Their are already other unlimited providers, but BigPipe has differentiated itself as being cheaper by virtue of reduced support options, and to me seems very much targeted at a "power user" audience. BYO Modem, no call center, etc etc. Power users are much more likely to want static IP's than Joe Schmoe. So yeah I do think it's something they should perhaps be looking at. They may of course see it differently :-)

Bigpipe: What's the best way of getting a public IP over CG-Nat? PM you? Message via website? And no IPV6 isn't a suitable solution sadly.

Oh I could get used to service like that.

Email response from a live BigPipe staffer 5 minutes after I sent in the support message via the website.. On a Sunday afternoon no less!

I would argue they're the exact opposite. A low cost, reduced support option for people who don't things such as a static IP.

Not trolling here but genuinely curious - have people found any common applications which don't work properly through a CGNAT connection and only work with a public IP? Can you seed torrents without a public IP? I'm fairly sure Skype should work, Steam, Battle.net, etc.

What is the primary push for a public IP with the exception of running a true server?

SIP - unless you take steps to ensure headers are all manually configured correctly.

At the end of the day CGNET is just a fancy name for double NAT.

Alternatively a "sticky" IP could be another option. So basically BigPipe reserves your IP, but very occasionally it "could" change.
