"As of 2nd June 2014 you can no longer accumulate Skinny Dollars through the usual methods. You will have 6 months from 2 June to use your existing Skinny Dollars on purchases in our online store. After 2 December 2014, your Skinny Dollars balance will expire and no longer be available to use."

That's a bit sad. It was a great little rewards system. Ive got about $28. People I know have over $50. I was hoping to one day save them up to the maximum of $200.

I don't know what ill do with them, Either buy a heap of sims or one of their cheap phones (which I don't need as I have an S4)

I am ok with them not giving out Skinny dollars anymore given that now we have free Skinny to Skinny calling (on the $16 combo).

However, I am gutted we cannot use the Skinny dollars in a meaningful way.  I am on the same boat as you: my wife and I have enough skinny dollars to but a dumb phone or a big stack of sim cards, but why?!

I think Skinny should give us the chance to covert the Skinny dollars to prepaid credits.

I already had swapped to one of their $2 Sims that came with 1000 skinny minutes so I was fine before that, But yeah I agree, Something like that should be done

Not fussed myself as I only joined skinny a couple of months ago - so havent go any skinny dollars....
Am hoping that they will start rolling over unused data like 2 degrees started offering recently.

Standard rates are also going up. They are now just 1 cent cheaper than 2degrees's :/ There must be some reason for all these changes, They musnt've been making enough money or something. Its becoming more and more like any other network. When Skinny started it was meant to be different

My bro signed up to Skinny.  Due to the free phone when he spent $50 that he got as a credit.  Only thing now good about Skinny is the $5 annual top up and the $16 combo (and maybe unlimited minutes to other Skinny handsets).

Yeah .. minutes, TXT and data are now just 1c cheaper than 2D.  Telecom data is still $1/10MB or 10c per MB.

At least Skinny's roaming rates are more than Voda and Telecom but less than 2D.

Edit.  In the past 2D had great promotions like double credit top up and half rates.  Now they seem to have blended into the rest of the group.  Carryover units yeah but if one isn't consistently using them all then it would just build up, once they discontinue the monthly pack, they cannot be accessed.  Unless one went on trips and can have the opportunity to use it more where they spike up their consumption.

But for general users.  There isn't much to be saved anyway.  Casual rates - you're probably not using a lot.  If you are on a combo plan.  $19 vs $16 (Skinny) is just $36.00 per year.  Like for my mum the only thing is the $5 top up.

The weekly plans are a bit unique as well.  Good for tourists and NZ local tourists alike.

I never used the skinny $$$ except once to get a free SIM card.

However, at $16/ month for 500MB data, unlimited TXT's and 90 mins of calls including calls and TXTs to Australia, Skinny got my attention. Now it includes FREE unlimited calls Skinny to Skinny.

With the wife and one child also on the $16/ month plan, it's a winner for me :) I don't bother TXTing the wife and kid anymore - I just call and chat. No more waiting for a reply TXT :)
