Hi all,

My friend has sold me an Iphone 6. He said that he has used it with Spark. When I received it, I put Spark SIM: it worked but when I put the Vodafone SIM, it has no service. It's mean that Spark locked their iphone 6 ? How can I get it unlocked ? Can I use any online service to do ?

Thank you,

May be an 850 handset, not 900 - where are you located?

I don't think Spark lock their phones.

I'm in Auckland. I don't know why Spark sold the different kind ? I check some unlock website, it said about sim lock: unknown, some other website said that factory unlocked. I don't know why ?

the frequencies that spark use are different to those that vodafone use so that could very well be the reason that the phone wont work

Do you have Vodafone coverage where you're testing it?

No..... only cheap low end phones are locked and you can get them unlocked for $30. If iPhone's were going to be locked you would see the fanbois out on the streets protesting so I don't think it will happen any time soon.

The iPhone will work in both networks. You either have bad Vodafone coverage there or the phone has been reported stolen, locked by Vodafone. Have you tried using a Spark SIM again to see if it's working?

Go to this page, enter the IMEI and see if it's blocked:

Check whether your mobile handset has been blocked

umm how about $199

[when the iphone 4 was launched I think I bought it from voda for $199 with a $29 per month plan that came with 3gb data and when you terminated the 24 month plan the total cost was less than an iphone itself! no locking ... gone are those days I guess]

Hi freitasm,

After I put the Spark SIM in again , it works
In my area (CBD), both Voda and Spark have good signal.

I don't know when I check the IMEI with some websites, it said that:

Carrier: New Zealand Telecom
Factory SImlock: Unlocked
Simlock: Unknown

Until today,  I have used your link to check and it showed that this phone is blocked. Poor me !

I don't know why it's from Spark , then someone reported lost to Vodafone and then Vodafone blocked it ?
Please explain for me and give me some advice !
Thank you !

Go to the link I gave in my reply, not to "unlock" sites.

Yes, it could happen that the phone is stolen from a Vodafone customer, it's reported and locked, and the lock takes a few hours to replicate to Spark and 2degrees.

The phone is not locked and it should work in all New Zealand mobile.

Your phone has been reported stolen or lost to Vodafone and has been blocked on their network. As data is shared across the 3 networks it will be blocked on Spark and 2d in the not too distant future.

I suggest you contact your friend who you purchased the phone from and ask them why this is happening.

Yes, I used your link and checked, it is black: stolen or lost.
I have never known about this to check before buy it.
As you said, Spark and 2degrees will lock it soon. Is it right ? If yes, it's a bad news for me !

And "The phone is not locked and it should work in all New Zealand mobile", did you mean : before the phone is locked by Voda, it is an unlocked phone that can work with any NZ mobile.

Thank you freitasm !
