Tried to call someone (very trusted) this morning, 4 times. I dialled, ring tone, eventually went to voicemail. All four times. Sent a txt - it was received, replied.

But later I discovered their phone never rang, no missed call, nothing. (No I didn't leave voicemail).

Is that even possible?

Sure is, I've had it happen to me a number of times (as the recipient). The ring tone is generated on the network, not by the phone.

That's why people calling phones on MH-370 heard ringing.

Had this happen ages ago, it was a fault on the exchange. If I picked the phone up I could answer the incoming call, but there was no ring voltage happening.

Try calling while you have the person on the mobile and get them to pick up the landline and see if it connects. If it does, its a fault with their line. If not, then it could be anyone between your telco and them.

It's possible. I've had this as a fault twice. Both times it was a incorrect SOD command. Can be fixed remotely but will need to proved as that first.

Spark have a great big bunker full of telephones that they inherited from Telecom. If there is a call that they don't know what to do with they route it there. So in the future when you don't specifically place a person to person call and the intended recipient doesn't hear your call then you can rest assured that your call is happily ringing away in the empty room at Sparks headquarters. I jest.

If you're a caller using VoIP, you may hear a ring tone whether the other phone is ringing or not.

Not possible.

The other person is a two faced, good-for-nothing liar whom you should have nothing to do with ever again.  Delete them from your will and add me instead. I'm much more trustworthy.
