Hello,

There is something I've been wondering about this phone, and that is, if I unlocked the phone to allow me to use the GSM network (have been told I also need a vodafone sim card) would I be charged 021 to 021 calling rates when on the GSM networks?

E.g. I sign up to telecom mates rates giving me cheap calls from 027 to 027.

I then sign up to Vodafone's version of mates rates and I then get cheap 021 to 021 calling rates.

Is this scenario what actually happens?

It will follow the rates and services based on your pricing plan you operate it on just like any other GSM phone while it's in GSM mode.

paradoxsm is right. Just tro clarify - the W531 is basically two seperate phones:

A CDMA side that is connected to your choice of Telecom New Zealand rate plans

AND

A GSM side, that will roam on GSM networks (Voice and SMS only, no PXT or WAP or data), and use your GSM providers rate plan that you choose.

As you know, from the factory, this phone is locked, and requires unlocking to work with a non-Telecom SIM card.

So, in conclusion, yes.

I take it you know how to unlock the phone to use on Vodafone? (PM me if you don't).
But don't discuss it here, because that's against the forum rules (in fact, PMing me might be as well, but PM me anyway).

Oh noes! I've just noticed it lists my country as Australia!

Ever since upgrading my computer and reinstalling windows I've had miss identified countries.

Google thinks I live in the UK

FadedMantis: Thanks guys.

Do you still have that link? I have been looking everywhere for the code to unlock my phone again. I need to give the phone to telecom to repair a pxt issue but activating the GSM slot void's the warranty (I think). Hopefully if I deactivate the sim card slot they won't know the difference but I cannot find the code anywhere.
