For awhile now I've suffered constant lag spikes and packet loss while trying to play online games. In the game Warthunder I used to get a solid 150-200 ping and could play no problems but now it will jump up to 350-550 often and the Packet Loss ranges between 2-6% causing all kinds of weird laggy behavior. Are there things I can do to try and fix this or do I need to call Spark? I recently had a nice new router installed so it shouldn't be that.

Thanks for any help!

You have not stated this, but could you please ensure you're not using WiFi to game? If you are, use Ethernet.

See this thread.

Otherwise you'll need to provide more information on your connection such as sync speeds etc. It is likely it is upstream saturation if you're on ADSL.

which servers are you using, how are you measuring the ping and packet loss? what else is happening on your connection while you are gaming?

i game on wifi all the time and have zero issues with ping spikes or lag. and TBH its only really going to make a difference if you are trying to be a pro gamer and get every last ms out of you connection. and while i can understand that wifi can cause issues a blanket statement like dont use it is a little rash

You will need to provide a lot more information including your connection type, connection stats, how you're connected, and how you're testing packet loss. Without all of that there is very little anybody can do to help you.

Sorry for the lack of info. Both WiFi and Ethernet give me the same problems. I have a VDSL connection. At the moment I'm the only one using the internet so nothing else is happening while I'm gaming, though in the past when things were fine I could game while 6+ devices were on WiFi.

Warthunder connects me randomly to US or South Asia servers, in the corner there is a ping and packet loss readout which is showing me these spikes. I get good ping on the oceania server for Battlefield 1 but rubberband and lag a lot with 'packet loss' and 'latency variation' warnings often displaying.

I've been trying to run the pingtest.net test all morning but can't access it through internet explorer...

What do actual pings show? Pingtest.net isn't really an accurate way to measure latency.

Can you post a traceroute to a problematic server?

Sorry, we'll never take in-game "ping" results as something to action... There's just too many variables to consider. As others have said there's more info to supply and troubleshooting you need to do before anyone else can make any sort of informed suggestions for you.

Cheers - N
