I download, using Usenet groups from Giganews on an SSL connection, from .nzb indexes via www.newzbin.com Safe secure and I know what I'm getting thanks to the rss feds from newzbin. I've been happy with that setup for a couple of years now since moving away from P2P.
So Fresh in NZ a year or so ago and I plump for Xtra. Been happy with them but a couple of months ago my speed dropped dramatically during daylight hours from the 650KB/s to around 50 or 80 if lucky. All of this international via SSL, so they cant inspect the traffic etc.
Xtra denied all knowledge and wanted me to run international speed checks etc. Infuriating. Each night at midnight the throttle would be released and bang, back up to 650 till 7am. The clocks changed recently and since then the same behaviour is present, but the throttle comes off at 11pm now.
Here's the traffic graph from Newsleecher.

So you can see the traffic release is quite dramatic. I'm investigating moving to Xnet fusion to get around this as they refuse point blank that its anything to do with them, and wont investigate further. All these emails between myself and phone calls to their 3rd line occurred at the end of March. Been on holiday since then and thought I would try once more to see if there is an answer, so I emailed them that jpg last night. The answer I got back wasn’t one I expected.
"Our management has discussed this issue with you in the past. You had advised us you were going to change your Internet Service Provider."
and that’s it, no explanation, just a , hey your going somewhere else. Not even a "we'll check it out"
Some customer service that is .
So Question, after my waffle. Is the throttling directly from Xtra, or am I blowing at them without cause ? and will it change if I dump them completely. Looks like the line is good for 659.3 KB/s at a peak so I presume it should be.
Awaiting your replies, thanks for reading.
