I've got a friend who runs a local business in my suburb. Recently he switched to 4G wireless broadband at his shop and since then he's been unable to access a system remotely that runs internally in the shop. I figured it would need a NAT rule and sure enough there is a specific port to access the system.

I told him this and he went off and entered a rule in his router but it still wasn't working. When I went in this morning and had a look I could see it all looked correct to me. But when I tried browsing to the service from my mobile using the external IP and port it wouldn't resolve.

It's a Huawei B315 LTE modem. Does anyone know of any issues forwarding ports on this device or type of broadband service?

That's interesting and maybe disappointing :) So how are ISP's selling this wireless broadband as a better solution to businesses if businesses can't then get to the things they need to access remotely, e.g. cameras?

I just looked up the router manual and it seems the rule might have been set in the wrong screen, he'd put it into the Special Applications screen which looked the part. But just above it is a Virtual Servers screen which looks the same but also allows specifying the internal IP of the device you're accessing, which was confusing me earlier as to why I couldn't see that in the other screen :) We'll try that and if it doesn't work I suspect he'll go back to the old copper.

Spark FWA is CG-NAT like all mobile connections. Obviously as a result you can't do port forwards as you don't have a public IP.

I do however recall reading something on here a few weeks ago that Spark may now be offering public IP addresses. No idea if they allow port forwarding with that.

Static IP is available to Wireless Broadband (WBB), and the WBB modem supports port fowarding.

Suggest you hop over to www.spark.co.nz/staticip and order a Static IP for the WBB service.

Thanks was hoping to get away with dynamic dns since it's supported on the router but if a static IP is required I'll let him know.

With "dynamic IP" on the mobile network (which support Wireless Broadband) uses CGNAT, so any port forwarding will not work here.

They do need to have static IP on WBB for this type of use.
