I get these phone calls, a few a month, from numbers such as

 

+211333309288

 

+211221349586

 

when I answer the call just hangs up.

I would suggest you don't answer. They originate in Africa.

More importantly don't call them back. It could cost you big $$$.




If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

As above. It is a scam that basically relies on making you curious enough to call back. Calls are to premium numbers that cost more than normal. Scammers get the revenue from premium numbers.

If it is not from a New Zealand number (+64 or 0) and you are not expecting a call from another country, ignore.
