I am poised to purchase a Samsung Global i325, as a replacement for my tired Nokia 6255 that has served me very well.

I have searched here and around for any negative comments on this phone, and have only found “its ugly” – which I can live with.

My needs are a for phone that syncs with Outlook, through bluetooth, and works with my existing BT car-kit. I am looking for a dual mode phone to allow roaming, and am looking forward to trying a few PDA-like features.

I am not interested in going Voda, although the range of phones is attractive.

So any horror stories on this phone? I would like to hear them before purchasing, not after.

I own one, and I guess I have been the most vocal here about the units (lack of) appearance.

I had some freezing issues a few weeks ago, but that was isolated, and overall have found it to be very reliable (on the WinMo scale of things).

I would have rated my old 6255 at 95% reliable, and the i325 at about the same.

Most people I know with i325's are very happy with the reliability (especially compared to stock Touches etc).

Thanks tony - that looks like a good report. I had a play with one in a shop today, and have downloaded and viewed all the data sheets I can find, and cant see any traps yet...

I may go ahead in a couple of days if I dont hear any bad stories.

I use a Samsung i325, and have done since the day they launched. Overall it's a stable and very usable WinMo device. I've used all of the Telecom WinMo devices ever launched and in my opinion the i325 is the best yet. It's not fancy, but does pretty much everything that I want it to including working overseas for both voice & data (Have used in Oz a few times). A number of folks in my office have changed to the i325 with very few complaints.

OK Guys, on your good reports I bought my i325, and...

It certainly is fun to play with, but I have a fundamental problem (and probably a bug to report).

I wish to have the phone sync to my calendar and contacts through Bluetooth. I have successfully got the Bluetooth connected, Vista mobile device centre set up on the PC and syncing to my office Exchange server.

But – it seems the Bluetooth does not want to re-connect. I have to initiate the connection from the phone every time (“Active Sync”, “menu” , “connect via Bluetooth”). Then I can either click on “sync” on the phone, or right click on the sync centre icon on the desktop and sync.

I can also set up schedules to re-sync on a regular basis, and all works well.

The trouble comes when I walk out of range of the Bluetooth, the connection fails, and if I have the sync schedule enabled, the stupid thing tries to sync through the CDMA, and of course cannot find our company server name(it is not visible to the internet), so the phone crashes with the following error (every time):

“Phone Fatal Error CDMAps_ifacei_event.c 1431 Assertion 0 failed PS”

After this the phone home page displays “phone off” and going to Wireless Manager and trying to turn the phone on fails (hourglass, then nothing happens). The only way to get the phone working again is to power down, power up (don’t you love windows!).

With the scheduled sync off, if I walk back to my desk after going out of range, I have to re-start the Bluetooth connection on the phone every time.

So – my questions are:

- Is there something I have missed in the settings to tell it to re-connect by Bluetooth automatically (like my trusty old Nokia always did)?

- Is there a way to force it to use Bluetooth for sync every time (I cannot find this)?

- Is that error a known bug, or should I report it to someone somewhere?

Hmmm.. this topic is getting a reasonable read count, but no responses... does anyone out there own an i325 and is using bluetooth to sync? If so, how do you do it? I have settled in to manually connecting from the phone each time I come back to the desk, and it syncs OK, but if I accidently walk away during a sync, it will try the internet, and crash the phone every time...

Sorry mate - this is typical of WinMo devices. Sync via Bluetooth must be initiated manually each time. Nokias are fantastic in this respect.
