Hi guys

I just heard on the newstalkzb radio show with the news. Telecom no longer offer Flybuys anymore???

Just checked with Flybuys website, it is confirmed that it will be no longer having flybuys at the end of the year...

Yeah I read about it too
I think the loyality schemes are starting to fall a little flat by the looks, I understand Genesis Energy are not doing AA rewards anymore, heck even AA Insurance isn't doing AA Rewards anymore
Used to be good when BK offered Fly Buys but they pulled out a while ago

Do Shell still offer 1 point per $20? Or something similiar? I haven't been to Shell in years. I know BP changed there AA points scheme a while ago so that it was based on litres of fuel and not dollars.

Shell have also gone that way as well - every 20 litres of fuel equals 1 point.

BNZ is also a great source of Flybuys. Visa especially, also mortgage, insurance.

Well I work for Telecom - so no flybuys there (no bill = no points)
I don't shop around for petrol, and don't use much anyway so wouldn't pick up much there

Beaurepairs? How often do you buy tyres? :)

With Westpac for insurance and mortgage.

I used to get a few points when I lived near New World and shopped there, but now I am nearer Foodtown I go there so no flybuys.

I can't even remember the last time I actually got some points.

Anyone who joins Telecom for the sake of flybuys is making a very irrational decision IMO.

How many points do you get per month? At $25=1 point maybe 4 or 5 for the average user. For a high end user maybe 10-15 What is that worth in terms of what you can buy?

a Dlink wireless router with an RRP of around $200 for 995 points.
That gives you approximately 5 points to the dollar.
That basically means that for every $125 you spend with Telecom you get about $1 worth of flybuys – that is less than a 1% discount effectively.

Now if you are already with Telecom, or you are going to switch foir some other reason then the points don’t cost you anything so you might as well take them, but making your decision to join or leave based on whether they offer flybuys or not for the sake of a 1% discount seems pretty bizarre.
