I'm loathed to contact the help desk, as when I've had similar issues in the past they were generally little help and members of this forum (who work at Spark) were able to sort the issues far more quickly. So I'm hoping that might be the case this time. But I don't remember who the users were.

I'm on Unplan Fibre Max and just discovered I'm only getting about 120 Mbps down and 140 Mbps up using Speedtest.

I'm not sure how long it's been like this and only noticed because I recently re-setup my WiFi and noticed those speeds maxing at the above level, so I initially assumed it was a WiFi issue. But I decided to do a test from my PC over ethernet (which previously got 960 Mbps up, 540 Mbps down), and found I'm actually getting the same low speeds over ethernet as well.

If anyone from Spark watching these forums who could help would be really appreciated.

if you are getting the speed over wifi and ethernet then i would suggest you power off the ont and the router then power the ont back on first then the router. then retest.

If its still not working contact the helpdesk

What kind of router are you using?

Swap in the HG659 or Smartmodem and see what you get then please...

Or alternately, confirm that you have fast path (HW offloading) PROPERLY enabled and haven't got a feature turned on which disables it on the ERlite.

Valid question.  Try with your ISP provided router before declaring a problem.  ISP will make you do that when you log a ticket anyway.  Unless the account was provisioned without an ISP supplied router, then they might insist they send you one to test.

I hate the helpdesk, they very seldom help.

Everything has been restarted (for other reasons) since I first noticed the problem over wifi, but not since I discovered it was also impacting ethernet as well. I don't think that will fix it, but can't confirm until can restart again tonight and re-test.

Exactly the reason why I don't want to go through the helpdesk.

I don't have a Spark router (and wasn't provisioned one), and know what speeds the EdgeRouter gets (and has previously been getting).

Almost every time I've experienced this type of issue (either my own or someone I've been assisting) the problem has been on Spark's (or Enable's) end. And I've always gotten a faster resolution posting here and having the right Spark employee read it and look into it.

If required I can borrow a Spark router on the off chance my EdgeRouter is the issue. I think that's unlikely, but I suppose I can't rule it out.

Good suggestion with HW offloading Neil. It was definetely previously enabled, but I firmware update might have messed with the setting and I never noticed. Top on my list to check, now.

Thanks

I get that it's top of YOUR list, but correct top of the list if you want to troubleshoot a potential issue with the service is to put in a known good router... But you know that :-)

I feel the need to point out that this makes you the unbelievably, ridiculously small exception - 4 standard deviations away from normality... It's figuratively never the ISP or the LFC.

Now of course those rare events do happen, but it's insanely rare.

First thing I would do is plug a PC into the ONT and create a vlan10 sub interface, create a PPPoE with username anything@anything with a password of anything and run a speed test

Eliminate anything else first
