Hi Guys,
I live on Ferndale Rd, Mt Wellington, and until a few days ago I was with Xnet for naked-dsl.  My sync speeds were around 4500/800 with a WRP400.  I recently went back to Telecom, signing up for the Total Home package with an extra 10gig.  However my speeds arent quite as good as they were:
DSL Type:G.992.5 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:923 / 3.318
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:0,00 / 0,00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:12,0 / 15,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:29,5 / 50,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:13,0 / 13,0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote):

TMMB / BDCM

I understand that distance can be a factor, but here I'm not sure what could be different.  The Thompson and Linksys have a difference of about 200 in the down sync rate which isnt much at all.  The upwards sync speed is higher, pretty much max, while the downward has lowered.  The Attenuation on the downward bandwidth has increased a couple of points too.  Could it be something the technician done at the box?  I wish I had the same perfect sync speeds I had at my place in Hamilton!! No cabinet here for ages (damn rental agreement!!)

The difference in connect rates currently is most likely explained by the SNR margins. Xnet may have more aggressive SNR margins than Telecom have by default. Aggressive SNR margins are fine to a point, however they trade stability of the connection and likelyhood of experiencing disconnections for a little more connect rate speed.

Usually not advisable for connections a long way from the exchange, which (without double checking) you seem to be.
SNR margins are adjustable on some modems. Search 'dmt tool' for information on that as I can't be bothered typing it up.

You may like to try forcing your modem to connect with the ADSL1 protocol G.dmt. ADSL1 will connect faster, than ADSL2+ will in most cases, if your maximum connect rate that you can obtain is under the maximum that ADSL1 will allow for (e.g. 7616/768kbps interleaved). My modem for example will sync at 4.3mbps downstream when on ADSL2+ multimode, however will sync around 5mbit using G.dmt.

Your best to leave it like this until such time as a cabinet is installed in your. ELL/AD is due to go live October 2010.

Also, as an aside you may want to try an isolation test and see whether or not that helps you bring the connect rates up at all.

Ok that makes sense to me. I really wish I was closer to the exchange!  Soon it will be faster for me to use HSDPA lol

yeah iget the same problem if i switch between a vodafone mt882 and my seimens speedstream 4200

with the vfone modem i get over 4mbps but it drops out lots where as i get around 2.5mbps with the 4200 but its stable the diference is the vfone mt882 increases attenution by 5db and decreases snr by 4~6db as opposed to 50db attenuationand 12db snr
