Hey

My brother is flatting, and he has a bandwidth issue. The whole flat is on the Telecom Adventure plan (20 GB and month, FS/FS) and there's two regular internet users, and another flatmate who is torrenting constantly. The question is, can my brother split up the connection so they each are capped at using 6.6 GB a month?

Yes, it would require a good router modem but it could be done. $300+

A linux box could also be used to manage it. They wont be happy campers.

Catch them torrent three times and you can take away there connection?

Anyway, the problem isn't that he is torrenting, just that he is using up too much of the cap.

Easiest way to do it would be with something like HomeQoS otherwise you're looking at a linux or bsd based firewall distro eg: Smoothwall, IPCop, pfsense, monowall but that requires a high level of geek knowledge.
