Why is this capped? Capacity? or are they just fleecing?

Cause radio has limited capacity and if un-capped traffic would grind to a halt

The answer above is correct, each cell tower only has a certain amount of capacity so there will be speed limits and data caps.

If you need more data, see if there is a Wireless-ISP in your area or consider Starlink

Top answers are correct: if you live rurally, 9 times out of 10, you’ll most likely be using the 4G 28band (700mhz) - this band has waaaaay less bandwidth/capacity compared to 3, 7 and 40 which are much greater but also have much smaller footprint - hence why unlimited wireless can be sold in urban areas. Hope that answers your question

While the physical aspects of the radio network are absolutely true, this can’t be the actual reason. How then can, say, Vodafone’s One plan be offered while you’re on RCG towers?

If upload not a major issue for you, join starlink

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

There’s a fair use policy on Voda’s one policy. Secondly, fixed bb, wireless or not, anecdotally use far more data every month. And let’s be honest, are people actually going to be hotspotting their phone for a permanent internet solution? That would do anyone’s head in

Starlink are going to start a 1TB data cap in December...

From an email I received, I've seen some comments that this may just be North America for now but my starlink address is in NZ so assuming if they sent it to me it's happening in NZ as well

To ensure our customer base is not negatively impacted by a small number of users consuming unusually high amounts of data, the Starlink team is implementing a Fair Use policy in December 2022.

Under the Fair Use policy, all Business customers will receive unlimited data, and will start each month with Priority Access, which means their data usage will be prioritized during times of network congestion.

Customers who exceed 1 TB of data use on a monthly basis (currently < 10% of users) will automatically be switched to Basic Access for the remainder of the billing cycle, and will be bitrate limited to 1 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.

Data used between 11pm - 7am will not count towards your Priority Access.
