My current phone is on its death bed, and I really don't want to 'waste' my money buying a new CDMA phone.

However I am thinking of getting a Nokia E51.

As far as I can see this is a 3G phone, which runs on Telstras NextG network.

Any flaws to my plan?  Will of course make sure it's unlocked etc...

Except that the new network is not active for consumers before June 2009 and you won't have any phone to use until then?

I have been using a Nokia E51 since late December and am very happy with it so far.  I did buy it with the hope of using it on Telecom's new network.

When I do network searches I can see Telecom NZ.  I think there was another thread that said Telecom NZ would allow Sim-Only connections for your own handset but provide no support.  Am keen to try it as soon as Telecom open their new network.

yes, well, there is that :(

the main problem is there is such a rubbish range of mid-range ($150-300) Nokia's (only one really), so I am reluctant to go that way.

The price on all the CDMA handsets has gone up too, the M300 is now $220 when I looked, nothing under $150.

guess they are wanting to slow down sales to their stocks last out till T day
