Hi there

I am currently a Woosh wireless customer for broadband/telephone. I've moved house and am thinking about switching to Telecom. I have two phone jacks (currently not in use). Is there any way that I can tell if they will both be operational BEFORE I make the switch? May seem like a silly question, but I really don't want the hassle of getting someone in to rewire one of them etc. and would rather not make the switch if this is the case. I've poked my head in the roof and it's just a birds nest of wires and would rather stay clear of it. I have also plugged a land line phone into each jack to see if it gives any clues ... one jack gives me an intermitent tone, and the other gives me no tone at all. This leads me to think that one of them won't workstraight off the bat if I make the switch. Am I right?

If the second one was wired, you would hear the same tone as the first.

Phone jacks are EASY to rewire. Just run new cable. Its cheap. And easy. And cheap.

or get a multi handset dect and not have to put up with other people picking the phone up when you are on it and other annoying things that happen with multiple analog handsets - like the missed call log registering calls answered on other handsets etc...

Thanks for your replys. Truth is I want the jack that is not giving off a tone to be the one I use as it is well situated for spreading wireless throughout the house. I'm assuming because it is not giving off a tone it is not wired up.

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet, do some reading, roll up my sleeves, and rewire it hoping that I don't chop the wrong wire.

Unless the other jack was once a 2nd line you may be lucky and find the wires disconnected behind the one that works. Telecom have a guide to wiring ordinary phone sockets.

Yes ,the one with the Int tone should work when you reconnect,
but as mentioned it's not too difficult to add extra oulets.

If it is a 2 wire system one wire left,one right,both sides are strapped together.

Thanks for your help :o) As it turned out both jacks came to life when Telecom "pulled the lever" so the jack with the tone behaved exactly the same as the one without the tone once when I went live.
