Finally we are here, 29th May. Most geekzone members will get the XT sim cards. So what are the speed test results? Please share them here!

It's also worthwhile remembering that any speed test results have the potential to be completely meaningless on a brand new unloaded network.

At the end of the day raw peak speeds is not a great way to measure the performance of a network, sustained throughput comparing peak and offpeak times is.

It is important to remember DIFFERENT DEVICES HAVE DIFFERENT SPECS.

For example got about 3.2 MBps down on my AT&T Pantech Matrix Pro, 6 Mbps down on my Acer F900, and 6.2 Mbps down with the Sierra Wireless Compass 885 USB modem.

These were all on an empty network before people started using it. But you have to take in consideration your device may or may not have the required specs for full speed.

Yeh probably but im ok with that, I never intend on downloading large files on my iphone so 1.6 mbps is perfect for what i'll use it for. It's faster than what I get on my xtra go large fixed line 99% of the time.

I all reality we should all be stating what speed test site we are using because their servers can often cause different results as well.

I use the speedtest.net app for iphone

Be interesting to see what happens as the networks load up. NealR states somewhere that 80% of the XT cellsites have fibre backhaul i.e. the 20 odd main towns and cities of NZ, so presumably there's little limitation to how many circuits can be added as sites are sectorised for capacity. Not sure, but I think he also said a bunch of other sites would be provisioned with fibre between now and Christmas 09 to support the HSPA+ evolution.

There's also been a media release over the last few days I read on Scoop that Telecom employed an independent third party from the UK to drive test the networks to substantiate their 'faster in more places' claim and make in legally bulletproof.

Talking about that, does anyone know what's happening with the Commerce Commission's investigation into Vodafone's 'largest 3G network (based on W-CDMA)' advertising claims? Are they going to be prosecuted?

nobody can match my upload speed on iPhone. 350k upload on vodafone in rangiora with a little signal. Hehe....

Disappointed with XT upload speeds really, Vodafone definitely outperforms on that respect. It'll be interesting to watch the download speeds as more customers get on board. I suspect that they won't stay this high for long.

Also: my iPhone seems to have decided to stick "Telecom NZ" in the menu bar permanently, even with my Vodafone SIM in. How strange.
