Hello,

I'm trying to find a phone with dual sim card slots that will be compatiable with the XT network here, and also take a sim for one of the Australian networks.

I travel to Australia and while I am there want to be able to receive messages sent to my Telecom number, but also want an Australian sim so when making calls to other Australian phones while I am there is cheaper.

Which model phones support dual sim cards and allow switching between the sim cards?

Also which Australian network is most similar to XT (850/2100?) that a XT phone would work best on? The only other places I anticipate needing to roam in the not too distant future (i.e. before next phone upgrade) is US and Canada.

Thanks in advance for any help =]

Good luck.. We were looking into this a few weeks ago and can't find anything that does what you want and looks like a half decent phone.

There are heaps of GSM dual SIM handsets but only a handful of 3G dual SIM handsets. I did find reference to one that supported 850 UMTS but that was 850/1900 so won't give you 3G Aussie just GSM.

In Australia Telstra NextG is exactly the same as Telecom XT.

Thanks sbiddle. That's a bummer. What about a dual sim adaptor like this;

Anyone tried on of them?

Edit: Are these the phones you were referring to http://www.3gmobilephones.co.nz

The Acer DX900 would work - but

SIM1 - 3G WCDMA which means you insert your Telecom SIM card to use here and roaming while in Australia

SIM2 - 2G GSM which means you insert your Australian SIM (not Telstra NextG) and get local numbers but only 2G data speeds.

Of course you can swap the SIM cards when you get to Australia and have local 3G voice and data, plus 2G roaming.

The Acer looks too big for my pocket =] After a bit more reading about dual sim handsets, I think something like the Samsung B5702 that uses both sim cards simultaneously, rather than switching between them, would be perfect for me if there was a 3g version. Will have to wait a bit longer.

Here is a thread on the subject :http://1024k.de/dualsim/dual-sim-adapter.html
Then a manufacturers website for dua SIM adapters: http://2-phones-in-1.com/

I might get one for my Jasjam but need to do more research on suitability of using Telecom and Vodafone SIM cards on one phone?

Cheap Chinese knock-off. Looks like a fake Windows Mobile interface. And it says "Diamond Appearance, ULTRA-THIN slim body" which obviously means "We are trying to copy the HTC Diamond here and making fool of ourselves with this ugly phone".
