Thanks to nzbullet's carrier bundle, I have got my iPhone 3G connected to XT, but have run into a bit of a snag.

I used to control data usage with Vodafone using "SBSettings" to turn off EDGE and 3G settings so that I could block data and then turn it on if I chose to.

However with "3G" blocked", it seems to block cellular reception for voice calls too.

Now that I think about it, given that XT is a "3G' only network, it might make perfect sense that this should be like this but can anyone confirm that I won't be able to block and allow data as I did previously on Vodafone using SBSettings while on the XT network?

Or is there some other way to block/allow data manually?

Aha! www.unlockit.co.nz

So Telecom don't do that stupid Vodafone thing where an incorrect APN still lets you access data then?  Undecided

no as far as I know they don't. Vodafone NZ are only of the only Carriers who does this as far as I can tell .
