I brought a new phone from Telecom yesterday, and asked them to put my old 027 number onto the new phone which they did. They said there will be a bit of a wait as it changes over, I was just wondering exactly how long this wait is? I brought the phone yesterday (Jan 4) at about Midday and it still hasn't connected up.

If you walked out of the store with an "open term" or unconnected handset, it should take 10 minutes.

If you bought the new phone as a prepaid, you need to wait for them to disconnect the propaid first then do the swapover.

ring 0800 800 163 from another phone if it's still now working.

If it was a shop doing the work for you go back to that shop. If it was the call center, give them a ring back on the number above.

Check with the store - I once had a swap and it didn't work - the person did it wrong. The next swap (from Harrier to Apache) didn't take longer than one hour to work.

When I was with Telecom, I was always quoted a timeframe of ~24 hours for an ESN change, but my experience was that it actually only took an hour or two.

Never had a changeover that took more than 10-15mins. Usually when it takes that long is because person at shop has forgotten to change number over afet old one has been disconnected

four hours normal maximum time for ANY change except swaps (including ESN changes and upgrades).

ESN Swaps up to 8 hours (both phones to dummy esns = 4hrs then both dummys back to the other phones = another 4hrs).

In reality on a good day: (typical, but can vary greatly at the drop of a hat)

ESN Change : 2 mins - 30 mins
ESN Swap : 30 mins - 90 mins
Upgrade phoned through telecom by dealer : 15 mins - 1 hour
Upgrade done by dealer over dealer extranet : 1 hour - 2 hours
New connections : same as upgrade over extranet, but occasionally extra time if auto credit checking is down/behind

SIM cards are not exclusive to Vodafone.

I remember when I first got my connection - I was advised (By 'customer services', Digital mobile thought it strange that it hadn't gone through) that I'd probably have to wait 24 hours for my SIM to be activated even though I had been given the SIM, been assigned a number etc.
