N86 8MP - Not the one sold in New Zealand
N96 - Not the one sold in New Zealand

Note I looked at the Nokia New Zealanbd specification pages.

You MUST look for handsets that support WCDMA 850MHz.

Ok Ive been looking on trademe and is this suitable

is says supports Quad band 1900, 1800, 900, 850 GSM & WCDMA networks.

Or this one

that says General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 - American version

I'm confused about what network is suitable?

Is only WCDMA 850 suitable for XT or could HSDPA 850 work?

The first one is quad band GSM. GSM (2G) is not the same as WCDMA (3G).

The second one is incorrect. The handset can't be "3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100 HSDPA 850 / 1900 - American version" at the same time.

None of those will work.

Thanks for the help, I had no clue that it was so hard to get phones that work on XT.

So if I buy an American version of a N86 8MP or N96 with HSDPA 850 would that work on XT?

Yeps both of the auctions are no go as freitasm said.

The problem is these sellers list all the specs of all models instead of just specifically the model they're selling. The model in the second auction is definitely only 3G 900/2100.

As long as it says 3G/WCDMA/HSDPA 850. Be aware that if you do purchase a handset from overseas, it may need to be network unlocked and/or firmware upgraded to ensure it is usable on XT.

I doubt you'll find XT compatible N86 or N96 models on trademe unless they're in the XT section and even then, ask the seller questions to confirm.

If you're not keen on those ones, then you'll have to go ebay most likely

After looking on ebay

would this be suitable if they shipped to NZ. I can't find any US sellers that ship outside of the US. So I may have to wait a while or get a friend to ship it to NZ.

The US version of this phone does support HSDPA 850mhz. I had a N95 and liked it a lot. Don't want to get a phone with touchscreen or qwerty keyboard but want something like the n95 and for it to run on XT. So I have decided on a unlocked n96 NAM.
