Hi,

I just received a spam/scam message by text.

"Congratulations your mobile have won US$5.8M for FIFA 2014 Int?l Award. To claim contact Mrs.J.Mcafee via:judym42010@yahoo.com.hk"

The "from" number is simply "+502" which is the same number used for Emirates flight reminders. It makes a bit of sense; Emirates was promoting FIFA this year so the scammer is obviously trying to use that connection to their advantage.

Anyway, how do I report this?

i wouldn't worry about reporting it. its just a text message at the end of the day. its not going to hurt you.
if you have a smart phone you could always install a sms filter so that the phone deletes the message before they even get to your inbox.

I still think that I should report it; while I can immediately see that it's fake, there are sure to be other people that fall for it. So I'd like to help "nip it in the bud" if I can!

Edit: Thanks John.

Yeah, contact Internal Affairs. Unfortunately if it comes from overseas like more and more are, there isn't a lot they can do. I know a few people who have tried to stop those ones that take $5 or $10 off their credit every couple of days but to no avail.

Let us know how you get on, I for one would be quite interested.

I've reported it to the DIA, which was easier than expected. I'll keep you all posted on what happens.

In addition, the incoming message is listed in T-World under "recent activity". Do you think I've been charged to receive it?
