Just happened to be walking past the new Telecom shop at Te Awa (The Base - Hamilton), noticed a reference to Geekzone on one of their TV screens, the VF vs XT coverage maps where ipad will get 3G that Mauricio posted a little while ago (link)
Also a few seconds of the youtube clip where 2 ipads side by side were doing a speed test of each network at the same time (link)

Finally Telecom capitalise on these network comparisons. Don't know why they didn't do this originally.

More effective and cheaper than Hammond.

The iPad video was created by a telecom staff member. I still totally disagree with the message they are trying to get across with it and am really surprised Telecom would use it in a marketing campaign.

Using the same logic I could say that Vodafone's coverage is vastly superior to XT because a dual band 900/2100MHz device that delivers nationwide 3G on Vodafone won't work across 90% of Telecom's coverage footprint therefore their network must be bad.

where abouts is it superior? I have both vodafone and XT have traveled for work all over the country. The vodafone device is 900/2100 UTMS & Quad band GSM.

I don't concisely compare the devices, however in my experience the vodafone one usually has fewer bars when compared to XT (in some cases the vodafone loses signal and XT has one or two bars)

before you ask, the handsets are identical, both Nokia 612x

Steve's point is that Vodafone gives much better coverage with a 900/2100 device since Telecom has no 900 coverage and very little 2100.

You both missed Steve's point. He's not saying it's superior. He's saying the logic used to explain it could be easily used the other way around too.

The important keywords are "Using the same logic I could say..."

sure you could say that, but it would only be relevant if Telecom were selling a 900/2100 device, or had special plans designed for it and promoted it

They don't.

The ipad comes with a Vodafone SIM and Vodafone have special plans designed for it.

Yet by nature of ti being a 850/2100 device it attains far superior coverage on XT - which is what the video is showing.
