the mp3 player function uses up battery (just like an iPod does), so thats why it would not last long doing that with it.

[self edit:]

you may also find that with a high spec phone with a large screen, big backlight and stuff, that for the first month or two you probably end up playing with it - a lot. Which would cause more battery drain that when you have settled into a routine with it.

Which people have you heard say it has bad talk time?

I used one for work for sometime and i cant say that it annoyed me at all. I could get through a daay or two without a charge with moderate use.

From memory the mp3 player wasnt to bad on battery life either.

The Mp3's playing through the head phones use less juice than pipping them through the speaker.

The 5600 is good but I hear the 9000 is better - louder sounds, higher price.

I have to agree with TonyHughes

Having just got a Sanyo 5600 myself I find I am playing with it a lot and that is draining the bat.
I have tried to leave it alone for a while and have found that the bat will last.
As for talk time I haven't a clue as I mostly text.
The phone has grate features but I am disappointed that I can't asign MP3s as ring tones without having to convert them with Wavepad. What I am after is a Turkey ringtone for my sister but can't find one.
I like it's looks and the camera is a good quality.
The video is a bit crappy but you can see it well enough.
Draw Backs??
The cost of customising your phone.
$4.95 per true tone is a bit much.
What I would like to see is telecom offer 5 free ring tones with the cost of the phone.
If you can learn to use Wavepad to convert MP3s to your own ring tones then you have one over on the company. I have got close with a ringtone playing a little but then crapping out.
It takes time to learn to drive all of the features but it is fun doing so.
It all comes down to what you want the phone for and weather you are going to use all of it's features.
Good hunting

all in all, I find the Sanyo 5600 a nice phone to look at, and use
The fact that it has features I may never use, Like p2t, is beside the point.

In short, yes, the phone is good
