Hi,

I've recently hit my broadband cap which is 40GB/mo and reduced to dial up speed. Since the cap will be renewing next week, I thought of changing to overage plan just for a week. I submitted the online form last night and this morning, when I checked my Telecom account, my usage is back to like 100MB of 40GB usage.

Now this is my question, is this the overage usage already? I mean if I use 2GB of this 40GB then I'll pay $4 since its $2/GB? Or I can use up to 40GB then that's when the overage counter will start?

If the usage meter is indicating that you have used 100Mb of your available 40Gb, then you wouldn't be charged for excess usage until you exceed the 40Gb. When the usage meter "thermometer" hits red, that is when the overage charges will start.

The thing to watch out for is obviously going to be excess usage charges for the new billing period.

If the plan changed (as it appears to have) on the 1st, you won't be able to do another change until May due to the limit of one plan change per calender month.

Everytime you change your plan (limited to 1 plan change per month), your usage resets, so yes you now have another 40GB to use prior to the end of your billing cycle. You will only start paying overage at $2 per GB once you reach this new 40GB limit.

I was in a similar situation recently. I wanted to change the plan to just pay the overage fee, and I thought it'd be just a simple flick of a switch so to speak and I'd stay at my current usage but just continue to pay the overage amount until the billing period ended, but that's obviously not how it works so my usage was reset to zero and I had about 10 days to smash back 40GB.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I think I should have asked this board first before I switched to overage. Now I have to watch my usage until May.

The sad thing is, on the reduced-speed plan, I always get full speeds before the day the usage resets back to 0. And on that day I download all the stuff I want. And I usually hit around 60-80GB during that day. But since I switched to overage, I guess there's no "download-day" this month. Darn.

It's a quirk/flaw in the way Telecom does their plan changes and billing, enjoy.
